Wichita Wildlife Refuge

I had a nice hike this morning down at the Wichita Federal Wildlife Refuge. It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from my house and my favorite place in Oklahoma to hike.

This particular canyon is not far from a trail head and pretty easy to get to if you are sure footed.
It is called Forty Foot Hole so I assume the walls are about forty feet.
Above the falls, I climbed down to this quiet part in the stream and just listened to the sounds for awhile.
I'm a little aggravated because I got some fantastic pictures of flowers and buffalo when I first arrived but they didn't show up when I downloaded the camera to my laptop. Not sure where they went but was sorry because several looked exceptional. The wildflowers are lovely this time of year.

I love thistles.
I also saw a pretty doe.
The girls didn't get to go with me but I enjoyed the time alone with my soul.

Penny...you should be an Oklahoma tour guide because you love this state so much and because you make it look really, really good! :o)

Thank you for reminding me that we live in a beautiful state!

That canyon looks very peaceful.
Do you know the name of the plant in the first photo? I have never seen a flower like that before.

Miriam, several people have asked me about it but I don't know what it is. I think it just hasn't bloomed, yet, and once it does, it might be more obvious what it is. I thought it was interesting/pretty.

Penny, thanks for the guide about the refuge this morning. So many people in this world do not know about the treasure we have here in Southwest OK. Our state is NOT all plains. A Lawton follower.
