Save the Wire!

I woke up well before light and abandoned the girls so they could continue snoozing. I snuck downstairs for a quiet cuppajoe. Finally some blue sky and it has been a lovely sunrise. Very still.

I decided to do some peaceful web surfing while I emerged from my nightly coma. They've added 3-D maps to Oklahoma buildings, so I had to check that out. Also looked into Etsy, something I have been meaning to do and learned, right away, that was sort of dangerous (Etsy, for the uninitiated, is a little like Ebay for crafters). Etsy appears to be more expensive, to me. Fortunately, since I am buying NOTHING, these days that will need to be transported, I managed to just window shop. I nabbed the name “Nestfillers” in case I ever get a wild hair and decide to open a store to sell puppy crate quilts or kerchiefs. I’m thinking there is a market out there for puppy baby showers since there are so many frustrated grannies. Stupid successful young people…

We are under the thirty day mark to return home.   (And I haven't started Christmas shopping, in case anyone is interested).   Now that we are having an extra van coming (that will make three, total), we have more room so we’ll probably bring Evelyn’s beloved (but sorta nasty) green chair.

She prefers to sleep on furniture – always has. Pearl made a feeble attempt to steal MY chair, a week or so ago but she doesn’t touch Evelyn’s. Evelyn is a gentle soul but everyone has their limits. She has a poker face and doesn’t easily show her emotions. That being said, I think she is the most sensitive dog we’ve had and feels deeply. And she loves that chair. I suppose I will have to give her MINE in the three week interim between loading up the vans and loading up the cars. Stupid dog…

I’m packing with an eye towards loading the cars and being fairly ruthless about it. Husband, not so much.

Yesterday, I tried to clean out a utensil drawer and he was working at the kitchen table. Not such a good idea. What should have been a ten minute job – max - turned into 45 minutes while he inspected every spoon and corn on the cob tong. I patiently waited while he did an internet search to find out what other products were produced by the manufacturer of the nut cracker (air guns – he’d thought they produced shot guns – oh well – these aren’t the CHEAP air guns, nosirreebob – these are the high powered air guns, apparently. That seemed to make him happy). He found some plastic cap looking things in a baggie that looked, to me, like covers for electrical plugs. But no. It couldn’t be that because he found one in the yard, once, and how could an electrical plug cover end up in the yard? We better keep that, just in case…

We ended up tossing some dog food can plastic covers and a wire of some sort. The wire nearly made the trip since he wasn’t sure what it was for but there must have been some reason to keep it… I tried to put some knives I gave him before we were married (still in the hard plastic package) in the garage sale or goodwill pile. But no. He LOVES those knives, so into the packing box they went. I suppose I should count my blessings that he wants to hang on to old things.  And I suppose he is lucky I love him too much to use those knives on him (plus, that would mean opening them and that hard plastic shell is stubborn).  But now I am wondering if all the effort and sacrifice I am making to make sure we aren’t too crowded in the cars will result in my throwing away something beloved to make room for a jar of old plastic unidentified thingamagigs. I need to stop this line of thinking – that direction leads to madness.

Well, husband and the girls have migrated downstairs (Pearl launched herself into my lap from across the room) so I guess my day has begun, in earnest.   I hope you have a mellow Sunday.  My goal is to attack the pantry.  Sadly, Husband has already decided that there is no reason to throw out that half full plastic bottle of white vinegar and 2002 can of artichoke hearts...

Even though he hates artichokes.

Happy Quilting,

Penny, Evelyn and Pearl

Your husband sounds like mine! I had to do so much packing while he wasn't around to see me, because I threw out tons of stuff. Fortunately, due to his mobility problems, that wasn't as difficult as it could have been.

Even now, 6 years later, he brings up something he hasn't seen in a while. I think the term we use is "lost in the move." Whatever it is could conceivably be in a box in the garage, as they get rummaged through about every other year, but it's doubtful. Mostly likely I've tossed it.

He is such a packrat!

I think that is why packrats marry non-packrats! I am the packrat, I would keep the knives, might need them someday for some unknown reason. My DH would throw them out.
Could you just imagine what a house of two packrats would look like??? lol

My husband would keep those plastic thingys too.....just in case!! (He would have kept that wire also lol!)

I love the stillness of the house before everyone else is awake.

The wire is back. He racalled that it went on a Bunn coffeemaker he used to have (actually, he still has it but it is broken). He might get another one, someday, and could use the wire for parts if it ever breaks down. True story.

He still lives. It is amazing that he can even see despite the glare off my halo.

Love your idea for the pet quilts -- and love your shop name.

You're so funny...
I hope Pearl survives w/o her beloved chair for a few weeks. Bless her heart :)

Living in a very small house for 14 years taught me to keep only what I used or cherished. I'm in a larger house now and have acquired more things, but still give away things if I don't use them after a couple of years....uh....except all that glass stuff from when I used to paint on glass and sell it.
