Germany - Surf and Sand HGTV Challenge

Germany, from Carol Doak's Mariner's Compass Stars book came together very easily. Here is a picture from the book:

This is an easy block. Choosing the weird striped border would not have been a first choice but it was in the fabric group that I am using in the HGTV challenge and I figured it would do less damage there than some other places.

I thought about using the striped fabric it for the binding and still think that might be a good idea. Not sure I have enough for the whole quilt, though. I may end up taking the fabric I have left over and piecing it together for the backing and binding. I am not there yet so will cross that bridge when I come to it.

This has been a really busy week but one thing I've done that I think has been good for me is eating at the courthouse cafeteria. A lot of times, I skip lunch and live to regret it. I've been catching lunch and in addition to avoiding that afternoon headache, I've taken time to socialize and really, I need to do that more. Helps to balance out the craziness of my type of work. I've also sort of fallen into a routine, recetly, of working on a block in the late afternoon/early evening before Husband gets home. It is amazing how much you can accomplish in an hour and 15 minutes or so, and it serves to kind of help me relax at the end of the work day.

This block doesn't look easy, but it is beautiful! I also try to sew for an hour or so before my husband gets home. It really helps calm and relax me.
