Icked out

We have all heard the news about New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and the prostitution ring. If we have a television, we have seen him on TV, wife at his side, apologizing and saying that he needed to rebuild trust with his family. He did not admit guilt (in a legal sense), he did not resign. Accordingly, WHY has he taken the stage, wife in tow, to explain himself to the public?

I am offended that she is set there as a prop to, apparently, garner public support for a man who concedes he did wrong and is, for some reason, making this the public's concern without making public restitution. If she wants to stand behind her man when he is resigning or admitting guilt with legal implications, that is one thing. When he is just airing some sort of personal failing - why is this any of my business and why put his wife through this to influence my opinion? I think it is creepy.

I wish they had kept this between the two of them. The press conference debacle was about admitting a personal failing and none of our business. If he wants to resign or admit guilt, that is different and if she wants to stand by him, so be it.
