Smiling Evelyn

It was a hot day but even with that heavy coat, Evelyn seemed to revel in it.

If she enjoys heat, she'll love Oklahoma. She'll get a chance to enjoy it in less than two months because that is when we are going home and will be able to stay for a couple of weeks.

Husband used to live near this intersection and took the street sign when he was a kid back in Oklahoma. He's in his fifties now. I think the statute of limitations has expired. We've had this street sign on our fence wherever we've lived. A little bit of home.

Itty Bitty, aka Pearl, isn't so itty bitty anymore. She is starting to go gorgeous on us.

Pearl is definitely a house dog. She didn't stay outside for long and would frequently opt to stay inside with the air conditioner while Evelyn went outside to bark at cats and puppies and birds.

As promised, here is a picture of the neighbor's puppy. I posted his littermate, yesterday:

They are going to be pretty big. To give you an idea of what they may be looking like, Evelyn is 55 pounds and we think Pearl will be about that size. The neighbor's little guys were 18 pounds each at 9 weeks. At the same age, Pearl weighed half that much. Yikes! Evelyn is SO excited to have new puppies next door!

I got a lot of happy pictures of Evelyn, today. It was just her day, I think.

Long time readers of this blog know that I lost my heart dog, Jezebel, last year. It has been so hard. Evelyn also suffered but over the past six months has been healing. Pearl has brought so much joy and love back into the family - she's filled a void I couldn't imagine would ever be filled in the days after we lost our girl. Still, I have not forgotten the pain of losing her and it remains on our hearts. An internet blogger lost her good dog, Fudge, yesterday. If she is reading this, I hope she looks at these happy dogs and hangs on to the notion that - eventually - the pain will lessen. But we are sorry for what she is going through, right now.

Pictures of Pearl - mainly

Pearl is growing up so fast. Look at this picture - her head is just about as big as Evelyn's:

Look at her canines. The adult canine is coming in right in front of the baby one.

The neighbors just got two puppies - littermates. This is General:

He is a cutie. I will post a picture of his brother in a day or so when I can catch him outside while I have my camera.

But back to Pearl:

She is really beginning to look like a Samoyed instead of some other critter:

Here she is, all flat. She likes to lay on the kitchen floor:

And here is big sister:

Pearl is so sweet - these pictures capture her personality:

Here is the butt shot:

That puppy has just the nicest hindquarters and legs.

Husband is already looking ahead to when we get our next puppy - in a few years. He says that he'll put me on a plane when we are back in Oklahoma so I can fetch one back from the same breeder. He adores that girl - with good reason.

Happiness is a Muddy Puppy

It is Friday, the weather is lovely and I don't have court, today. That means I can sit around in my robe on the deck, drink extra cups of coffee and procrastinate. I've been doing that a lot, lately.

Pearl just had to dig, this morning:

Evelyn, although she joined her in the dig, managed to stay clean and beautiful - of course:

Pearl's big-gurl teeth are coming in and it astonishes me how such mighty fangs can fit into such an itty bitty head. I've thought about this a lot. Then, yesterday, while the girls were playing I sat up and realized that PEARL'S HEAD IS SUDDENLY NEARLY THE SAME SIZE AS EVELYN'S!!

Seriously, there has been some major morphing going on just in the past few days. I took a close look at her snout and where once it went straight from thick white hair to tiny coal black skin with a sharp line of demarkation, there is suddenly a stretch of black skin coated with sparcer hair. This is where the darn thing has grown in just a matter of 2 - 3 days:

It may be hard to tell in the pictures but look at this goofy girl not long ago:

Although some Samoyeds like Pearl go through an extended awkward stage, I have always thought Pearl was beautiful. I think this picture does a good job of peeking forward to the pretty girl she is going to be:

But right now, she is solidly dialed into the "cute" setting.

Versus "beautiful."

Praises be to the Almighty Cupcake in the Sky, I had time to work on my son's wedding quilt, yesterday:

I don't know why my Gammill frequently gives me fits for awhile then decides to behave. I spent hours stitching and ripping then it got out of its funk and I started making progress.

My girls both seem to love hanging out with me in the sewing room. I suspect they pick up the relaxed vibe.

The belly shot:
